The tributaries of the Snake River here in Jackson Hole can produce some excellent fishing throughout the season. However, reports thus far have been that things on the tribs are a bit slow. You’ll find the best results on the sunny spring days on various attractor nymphs. Dead drifting small streamers is also a possibility. If you do go the streamer route try adding a short downstream twitch in the middle of your drift.
Keep an eye on the forecast for cloudy days with relatively calm winds. Those two things usually don’t mix well this time of year in these parts but in the event that it happens, get out to one of the tributaries or the Snake! We have seen some great fishing over the past couple weeks when the weather cooperates and turns into your typical dreary Spring day. The Bluewings have been out in force on those days. Midge fishing has been somewhat consistent when we get cloud cover as well. Fishing midges in all stages of life is a viable route to go on the beautiful Spring afternoons. So, you don’t need to wait for nasty weather to fish dry flies!
This is a great time of year to be in the Greater Yellowstone area! The fishing on all area rivers has been good for a while now and should continue until the onset of runoff season. Don’t forget to check the links we have set up to find the flows before you head out for day on the water. A few warm nights paired with bright sunny days will have the freestone streams running high and gooey!
Good Fishin’ from the crew at On the Fly!
