SNAKE RIVER:

The flows out of the dam are still very high for this time of year. The Snake above the Hoback has cleared from the rains and is fishing fairly well…for the bumped up flows. Wooly buggers, Sculpins, JJ’s, etc…, are what I would be throwing. If you’re not into the chuck-’n’-duck game, terrestrial/dropper rigs will pull in some fish, especially on sunny days with a bit of wind. Don’t be afraid to drop a brown stone nymph off the back of a dry fly. The fish should be looking for that hatch soon, if not already.

Keep in mind that the Hoback is still a little gooey from the slide last week. If you have a choice, fish the upper stretches.

If you’re looking to get out of the valley and escape the high water on the Snake, try the Salt River down in Star Valely. It’s fishing well, especially when the clouds roll in or in the evenings. Decent caddis activity around 7pm…drakes in the air too. PMD’s are showing up in force as well. Terrestrial fishing with a dropper will produce also.

Good Luck!
