Well folks…
Things aren’t looking too good for fishin on the Snake in the next couple weeks! Irrigators in Idaho have called for continuous water…likely more than the need!...all summer long and as a result, Palisades has been drained to 15% already. This is obviously a problem out here. The way things were managed this season, in our opinion and that of MANY others, has been POOR at best. Draws could have been done ealier in the summer couldn’t they??? Since this isn’t a report on water rights or western water law I’ll stop there and just say the fishing for the next few weeks Will be sub-par here on the Snake. Typically, August is the best month…not this year. Really a bummer for a lot of the outfitters who count on somewhat stable flows this month.
If you are heading to the Snake, keep an eye out for a few consecutive days of stable flow, even if they are high. That’s your window for decent fishing. Streamers, and attractors in the slower water will be the ticket until the draw ends.
Good Luck and Goo Fishin’
